Modular Railing System: Benefits & Installation Tips

Modular railings offer a stylish, safe, and code compliant system that can complement nearly any design aesthetic. These systems meet a range of needs and are ideal for stairs, ramps, walkways, and balconies. Their ability to withstand harsh conditions means they can be used in outdoor as well as indoor applications.

Another benefit that modular railings offer when integrated into a space in their ability to be customized to a wide range of specifications. Various infill materials and designs, handrail choices, and a modern aesthetic creates a versatile modular railing option. At VIVA Railings, our team of designers, engineers, fabricators, and installation professionals facilitate a seamless process from inspiration to installation, allowing you to focus on the overall process and construction timeline.

Let’s take a look at the benefits that modular railings offer.

A Range of Design and Material Options

The wide range of options allows you to customize the system to your design specifications with a modular railing.

Metal Infill Options

From wire mesh systems to perforated metal panels to cable railing infill, VIVA Railing modular railing systems come with a wide range of choices to construct the perfect railing for your space.

For example, horizontal bar systems, like the CIRCATM Multiline Railing System, create a sense of structure with long lines of railings installed on the posts via fixed point holders. This simple yet timeless look is low maintenance and fits well with modern designs.

Glass Panel Options

Glass panel railing systems come with a range of options from the mounting style to the color of the panels. The glass itself can be patterned, colored, frosted, or clear. The glass railing system can be top, core, or fascia mounted to meet design specifications. You can also choose the top rail and handrail profile to further customize.

To allow for even more customization in your design, we also offer Stair Wrap. This soffit is made of glass panels that wrap the staircase, furthering the design goals and enhancing the overall appeal. The staircase design at SMU Frances Anne Moody Hall features a frosted glass Stair Wrap.

Wood Handrails

Wood handrails bring a touch of traditional warmth to modern and contemporary designs. At the Nexus Health Meridian Santa Fe building, the harmony between modern and traditional blends seamlessly on one of their stairways. Wood paneling and wood handrails offer a natural touch complemented by the black BLADETM  Stainless Steel Multiline Railing and integrated lighting in the panels.

Various Configurations

VIVA Railings can be installed in straight, angled, or curved configurations, or a mix of any of these. The Benbrook Municipal Complex accented their upper balcony by combining a curved and straight configuration. Our CIRCATM Multiline Railing achieves the look effortlessly with curved railings mounted via fixed point holders to simple tubular posts.

Integrated LED Lighting

To create a space that is safe and accessible, LED Lighted Railing Systems add visibility to staircases, walkways, ramps, and balconies. We offer three lighting options: iRAILTMLineariRAILTM Sconce, and iRAILTM Pods. These options let you choose the ideal lighting system for your project and add safety and peace of mind for those using the space.

Durable with Minimal Maintenance

VIVA Railings modular systems are not only versatile with lots of design options, but they’re also durable and work well in both indoor and outdoor applications. Stainless steel railings systems are rust and corrosion resistant and are strong enough to hold up against impacts and weather conditions. To keep these systems looking great, all they need is a quick wipe with a mild cleaner. While the glass can accumulate fingerprints or smudges, the panels are also easy to clean.

Endless Combinations

One major benefit of choosing our modular railing systems is the endless combinations that you can choose to meet the needs of your space. Let’s take a look at how a few of our clients got creative with these systems to meet their needs.

Lubbock Cooper High School

The social stairs at Lubbock Cooper High School combined the SHOETM Glass Railing System and the FSRTM Free Standing Rail System to create a space where students can socialize and learn safely. The shoe-mounted system on the edges of the stairs prevent students from falling off while the free standing system provides support where it’s needed across the wide set of stairs.

Andretti Fort Worth

The Andretti Indoor Karting & Games in Fort Worth, Texas used the CIRCATM Glass Railing System paired with the iRAILTM Linear Illuminated Railing System to create a lighted railing that fits right in with the exciting atmosphere. It also creates a safe stairway with increased visibility.

SMU Frances Anne Moody Hall

The Anne Moody Hall project showcased above also demonstrates how different systems can work together to meet design and safety goals. On this staircase, the VIEWTM Glass Railing System is fascia mounted to maximize the amount of staircase width available. Where the railing meets the walking surface, the SHOETM Glass Railing System is shoe mounted for added safety and a seamless transition from the floor to the railing.
