13 Exterior Hotel Design Ideas

1

The glass facade of the Loews Arlington Hotel reflects everything going on around it, from the playful pool moments to the fans on their way to nearby sporting events. It also connects the inside of the hotel to its surroundings, so guests can feel connected to the area and each other whether they’re inside or outside.

2. Provide Ample Seating Opportunities

2

On the exterior of the hotel, an elevated space provides ample seating opportunities for guests whether they’re sitting down with a coffee or need a space to work. This area overlooks the pool where there is even more seating for poolside relaxation.

3. Connect the Hotel to the Action

3

There’s something about this balcony area that makes the hotel feel connected to the street below. The Loews Hotel Arlington is situated between two sports stadiums, Globe-Life Field and AT&T Stadium. It’s also connected to the Arlington Convention Center. Creating this balcony space with the SHOETM Glass Railing System allows hotel guests to feel connected to the action below whether they’re headed to the big game or into town for a meeting.

4. Light It Up

4

Exterior hotel design ideas that incorporate light add a statement to not only the hotel but also to the skyline. Lighting can be integrated throughout the exterior design and reflect the vibe of the hotel. The purple lights and the iRailTM system that’s integrated into the CUBETM Glass Railing System at the Choctaw Casino capture excitement and playfulness inherent in casino visits.

5. Mirror Other Elements

5

The hotel design idea’s exterior curvature mimics the curve of the patio and pool below creating a sense of flow and cohesion. Soft lines are also a nice departure from the sharp corners often seen in standard hotel design.

6. Create Privacy without Compromising the View

6

VIVA’s CUBETM Glass Railing System provides safety and the tinted panels in between the balconies provides privacy while maintaining the view over the pool and surrounding landscape.

7. Use Natural Materials

7

Using natural materials can tie hotel building design ideas in with the surrounding landscape or reflect the culture of the area. In San Antonio, Texas the Home2 Suites by Hilton captures the Texas traditions of building with limestone and sandstone in the hotel’s facade.

8 . Incorporate Colors

8

To complement the natural materials, the Home2 Suites by Hilton design incorporates natural yellows and oranges that play off the naturally varied shades of the stone. It’s also reminiscent of colors often seen in beautiful sunsets or found in the desert.

9. Blend the Old and the New

9

To construct the Home2 Suites building, the original building on the site was demolished, but the historic wall was preserved and integrated into the new building. If you look closely you can see that there’s a difference in how the stone facade appears and where the new meets the old. The ECO ELLIPSETM Glass Railing System was then integrated into the arches of the original wall to create a riverwalk that meets building codes while allowing clear views of the water.

10. Capture Mid-Century Vibes

10

The Statler is a restored mid-century modern building that mixes the retro vibes of the original 1956 building with modern hotel design ideas. It was listed as one of the most endangered buildings in the country after it stopped hosting guests in 2001, and restoration began in 2015 and included an effort to retain the mid-century design while updating it for modern needs.

11. Make the Entry a Focal Point

11

This towering hotel is given a moment of grounding with the stunning entry with this luxury hotel design idea. It interrupts the uniformity of the rest of the facade to clearly mark where the entrance is and it combines modern materials and a mid-century design that compliments rather than detracts from the rest of the facade.

12. Create a Pool with a View

12

Even though it’s positioned on top of a 19-story building, the SS WINDWALLTM Glass Screen System is an integral part of the building’s facade. This fully customized system creates the barrier between the open sky and the hotel’s pool deck allowing perfect views of the surrounding area from anywhere on the deck. Every WINDWALL design must be engineered to the project specifications and account for floor elevation, wind loads, layouts, and location.

13. Create a Multi-Dimensional Facade

13

While some hotels have the appearance of a smooth facade, the Omni PGA Frisco Resort chose multi-dimensionality to create interest and a dynamic appearance. Guest rooms and balconies jut out from the main spaces, resulting in a facade that almost reaches out to people as they pass, welcoming them into the space.
