9 Commercial Building Facade Design Ideas

Commercial facades do more than just protect the building from the elements. They offer an opportunity to showcase the company’s offerings and even highlight the company's values and dedication to their mission. Through thoughtful design, our MetalSpaces wall system allows for custom applications as well as a range of architectural panels designed to give commercial facades character while doubling as sun protection and noise control as well as add privacy.

1. Connect Interior and Exterior Elements

1

At the Stephen G. Terrell Recreation Center in Allen, Texas, the leaf motif featured on the perforated metal panels from our MetalSpaces system is carried throughout the interior of the building. Tree-shaped window graphics paired with the leaf-inspired panels filter the sunlight and create playful shadows and shapes inside as the sun moves through the sky. Leaves are also featured on the play structure inside the building to carry the nature motif throughout the space.

2. Conceal Functional Elements

2

Commercial buildings typically require a range of utilities, like a power source, as well as areas for waste disposal and more elements that are less attractive. While these elements are necessary, they don’t have to be on full display. Integrating a MetalSpaces system strategically to conceal utilities, dumpsters, or other necessities can maintain a cohesive design. Laser-cut fence and landscape screens are an extension of our Decorative Laser Cut Wall Panels and offer privacy while creating urban landscapes.

3. Reduce Sun Glare

3

To reduce the amount of sun glare that makes it through the window, you can use a sun control system to filter the sunlight coming through the window. It won’t block the sunlight entirely, allowing natural light to make its way inside, but it will reduce the amount of direct sun glare.

4. Create a Statement Entrance

4

At Kingwood High School, the school’s design incorporated decorative laser-cut wall panels into the entrance design. Paired with large posts, the custom design evokes the image of branches rising towards the sky. Positioning the name of the school in large letters towards one corner allows the panels to make a strong statement while still supporting the school’s identity.

5. Add Sustainability

5

The sun shade building facade at Braintree South Middle School is located near the main entrance and protects the interior of the school from excessive sunlight and glare. This allows natural light to filter into the building and create a playful sunscape inside. This method of sun control contributes to the school’s larger goals of sustainability and joins healthy materials and photovoltaic panels in working towards LEED Silver certification.

6. Include a Shade Structure

6

A shade structure can protect people from sun and rain as they walk as well as provide a place for a shaded seating area where people can gather. Take a cue from the Sterling Park Safety Center design that includes a shade structure in the commercial building facade as a way to create a protected seating area without compromising sunlight.

7. Incorporate Bright Colors

7

The bright yellow powder coated sun control panels at Arlington ISD Webb Elementary make a strong statement against the more subdued brick facade. Adding a pop of color can give your commercial building facade more character and attract more attention while acting as a functional element.

8. Customize the Design

8

Our MetalSpaces system offers a wide range of patterns and color options, but if your project needs a custom touch, we can customize the design and color to your specifications. At the Anne Arundel County Severn Intergenerational Building, the laser-cut metal panels include a variety of sign language hand silhouettes to demonstrate the importance of inclusivity and non-verbal communication.

9. Include a Custom Image

10

Our FotoFacade option uses laser cutting technology to create halftone dot patterns that reveal an image in the metal panel. You can recreate a timeless work of art or create a stunning design that’s unique to your project. Either way, FotoFacade panels add a one-of-a-kind statement to a commercial facade.
