SHOE cantilevered structural-glass railing on a continuous aluminum base shoe. ICC-ES certified, hurricane-capable, top or fascia mount. Laminated tempered glass.

The SHOE Railing System is VIVA Railings’ cantilevered structural-glass baluster platform: laminated tempered glass carried by a continuous 3.25" × 4" aluminum base shoe, top- or fascia-mounted to a steel stringer or balcony slab edge. With no posts and no visible infill hardware, SHOE delivers the most transparent, minimal guard in the VIVA line. It is ICC-ES certified and Intertek/ETL listed, and can be detailed for hurricane-prone, windborne-debris conditions. Glass is 1/2" to 1" laminated tempered with a PVB or SGP interlayer (SGP recommended for exterior), available clear, low-iron, tinted, frosted, ceramic-frit, digitally printed, colored-interlayer or cast. The aluminum base shoe finishes in mill, anodized, PVDF or powder coat, with an optional 4.5" × 1" cladding and a stainless, wood or illuminated cap rail, or no cap at all for a fully frameless edge. Structural glass is supported so the railing remains in place if any single panel fails, and a Sika polymer grout provides a watertight joint at the base.

SPECIFIER FAQ

SHOE railing system — frequently asked questions

What is the SHOE railing system?

SHOE® is VIVA’s cantilevered structural-glass baluster system: laminated tempered glass carried by a continuous aluminum base shoe, with no posts and no visible infill hardware.

Is SHOE code-compliant and certified?

Yes. SHOE is ICC-ES certified (ESR-4405) and Intertek/ETL listed, meets a 42" guard height and 200 lbf load per IBC, and can be detailed for hurricane-prone windborne-debris conditions.

What glass does SHOE use?

1/2" to 1" laminated tempered glass with a PVB or SGP interlayer (SGP recommended for exterior), in clear, low-iron, tinted, frosted, ceramic-frit, printed, colored-interlayer or cast options.

How does SHOE mount?

Top- or fascia-mounted to a steel stringer or balcony slab edge via the continuous aluminum base shoe, set with Sika polymer grout for a watertight joint.

Can SHOE be frameless or have a cap rail?

Both. SHOE can run fully frameless with an open glass edge, or take a stainless, wood or illuminated cap rail.
