Design, functionality, and sustainability often operate in separate spheres, but at times, they intersect seamlessly. VIVA Railings, the commercial railing specialist from Lewisville, Texas, has recently undertaken such an intersection at Colorado State University (CSU).
Located in Ft. Collins, Colorado, CSU's "Hydro" building embodies the university's dedication to hands-on experiences in food, health, and water.
In collaboration with ISEC, a general contractor with significant experience, and Hord Coplan Macht, a multi-disciplinary architectural firm, VIVA Railings crafted a railing system that aligns with both safety needs and aesthetic preferences.
This ICC-ES 4405-certified system isn't just about safety; it's about integrating design with function. With its patented compression set (US Patent No. 9127474) aluminum base shoe system, it offers durability and a streamlined appearance that fits effortlessly with the Hydro building's architecture.
ISEC, an employee-owned company with over 1,500 construction professionals, and Hord Coplan Macht, with expertise in planning, landscape architecture, interior design, and environmental graphic design, played integral roles in ensuring the project's success.
The Hydro building is the final installation in CSU's initiative to introduce three advanced structures emphasizing hands-on learning. Beyond its educational purpose, the Hydro building underscores CSU's commitment to sustainable practices and innovation in the fields of food, health, and water.
